Indian U16 Girls Basketball Team no show at Asian C'ship
The FIBA U16 Women's Asian Championship is tipping off in Jordan tomorrow, i.e. 10th July, and the Indian team is not participating despite having qualified.
In an unfortunate, yet not entirely surprising development, it is being reliably learnt that the Indian U16 girls team will not be participating at the upcoming Asian Championship.
The FIBA U16 Women’s Asian Championship is the elite continental tournament that serves as the qualifiers for the FIBA U17 Women's Basketball World Cup 2024 in Mexico.
However, India, despite having retained their position among the top 10 teams in Division A, will have to skip the prestigious event that is starting tomorrow in Amman, Jordan.
The reason for India’s non-participation appears to be the administrative issues arising out of the long-drawn BFI Election battle, that saw the new office bearers take charge only earlier this week.
India’s non-participation will be especially disappointing considering that special tryouts had been announced for the same, by the court-appointed BFI administrator.
This will be the first time in six editions of the tournament, which was first held in 2009, that the Indian team will be DNP.
