2023 Youth National Basketball C'ship Cancelled

India's premier U16 event will instead be replaced with direct selection trials for girls, to decide the team for the upcoming FIBA Asian Championship.

In a blow to talented upcoming ballers, it is reliably learned that the administrator-led Basketball Federation of India has canceled the 38th Youth National Championship for Boys & Girls, which was scheduled to be held in Didwana, Rajasthan.

Citing technical and logistical reasons, administrator Justice (retd) P Krishna Bhat informed affiliated units that the event, for youth players born on or before January 1, 2007, has been scrapped.

Selection trials for Indian U16 Girls team

The FIBA U16 Women’s Asian Championship is to be held in Amman, Jordan from July 10 onwards.

Highlighting the “paucity of time” to conduct the Youth National Championships and select the probables for the Indian U16 girls team preparatory camp, Justice Bhat has instead announced that direct selection trials will be held at SAI Rajnandgaon, Chhattisgarh, from May 31 to June 6.

Each State Asked to Send Five Players

Each State Basketball Association has been directed to send a maximum of five best players for the open selection trials. These players have been asked to report at SAI Rajnandgaon by May 30 evening.
