After an electric evening of 3x3 basketball action at the Elante Mall in Chandigarh, local favourites Pistol Group Ludhiana outlasted Diphu Nihang Red (Assam) team 21-18 to be crowned the India Champions of the 3rd Red Bull Half Court championship.
The side - featuring Kanwar Gurbaz Singh Sandhu, Arvinder Kahlon, Nawaz Singh and Kamaldeep Singh - will now head to New York in October for the World Finals.
Having finished runners up in the previous (2nd) edition back in 2022, Pistol Group were finally able to reach the summit. In the inaugural season in 2019, Northern Spartans had triumphed.
Undefeated Pistol Group
Pistol Group’s finale opponent, the eclectic Diphu Nihang (Red) comprised players handpicked from across India - Lalrina Renthlei, Aaron Monteiro, Aaron Blessen and Pratyanshu Tomar - and showed their flair and class with numerous highlight plays.
However, it was the steady, tall and physical Pistol Group - who have considerable 3x3 experience - having competed previously at Red Bull’s flagship 3x3 competition, that prevailed in the end.
Pistol Group’s dominance through the competition was clear, as it beat Diphu Nihang (Red) not just in the finals, but also earlier in the Group stages, staying undefeated throughout the event.
Qualifying Rounds
Earlier in April, two Qualifying Rounds were held in Ludhiana and Chandigarh, featuring 32 teams each. The top four teams from each of these Qualifiers progressed to the National Finals.
