INBL - BFI Settlement on the Cards?
There are concrete indications that the two warring sides - Indian National Basketball League (INBL) and Basketball Federation of India (BFI), may yet find common ground.
In an unexpected but welcome development, there are concrete indications that the two warring sides - the Indian National Basketball League (INBL) and the Basketball Federation of India (BFI), may yet find common ground.
Earlier this May, Ekalavyas.com had reported on the escalating legal battle between the two sides - in both the Delhi High Court and the Karnataka Civil Court.
Parties Exploring Settlement
INBL’s initial launch date for Season 1 of its Pro League (‘INBL Pro’) was August 2024.
Subsequently, the Delhi High Court forbade INBL from announcing or proceeding with INBL Pro until further orders.
Now, as per the latest update in the Karnataka legal proceedings on September 11, both sides have submitted that “they are exploring chances of settlement.”
The next date of hearing in the Karnataka Civil Court is scheduled for October 25. Meanwhile, the same matter in the Delhi High Court is listed a couple of days earlier, on October 23.
What about ACG?
It is also important to recall that following the initial Delhi High Court order in May staying the INBL Pro League, BFI had declared ACG Group as the winning bidder for its own proposed ‘National Star Basketball League’.
In this context, with exclusive Pro League organizing rights having been granted to ACG, it will be interesting to see what kind of understanding BFI can reach with INBL, considering the latter intends to launch a league of its own.
