Harsimran Kaur all set to become first Indian women's pro basketball player in Europe
After graduating from the University of Rhode Island’s NCAA D1 program, ‘Honey’ Kaur has signed with Esperides Kallitheas in Greece.
Harsimran Kaur Dhami, popularly known as “Honey,” has officially signed with Greek basketball club Esperides Kallitheas for the 2025–26 season. This makes her the first Indian woman to play professional basketball in Europe.
The 6’4’’ center’s signing was recently confirmed via her Instagram, where she shared her excitement for the upcoming season in Greece. Kaur will play center for Esperides Kallithea, which competes in the Greek Women’s Basketball League, also known as A1 Ethniki.
From NCAA to Pro
Honey’s move marks yet another milestone in what has already been a groundbreaking year for the 22-year-old. Earlier this year, Honey became just the third-ever Indian basketball player to graduate from an NCAA Division I program, completing her collegiate journey at the University of Rhode Island. Honey had transferred to the Rams after spending three years at the University of San Diego.
During her final season with the Rams, Honey dropped a career-high 27 points and 10 rebounds on 63% shooting, leading her team to their first conference win of the season. She finished the season averaging 12.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game.
Harsimran "Honey" Kaur Dhami becomes only third Indian women's basketball player to graduate from an NCAA D1 program
Despite relatively fewer exposure opportunities for Indian women’s basketball players, Harsimran Kaur Dhami aka “Honey” has now become only the third-ever desi baller to graduate from an NCAA D1 college in the US.
Before her NCAA stint, Honey made headlines as the first Indian woman to attend the NBA Global Academy in Australia, earning her a reputation as one of India’s most promising talents.
Known for her versatile skill set, ranging from rim protection to hitting solid threes, she now takes her talent to Europe, representing a growing wave of Indian athletes eyeing global opportunities.
A Stepping Stone to the WNBA?
With the WNBA actively exploring expansion, reportedly eyeing a total of 18 teams over the next five years, including new franchises in Cleveland (2028), Detroit (2029), and Philadelphia (2030), roster opportunities are on the rise. For a player like Honey, gaining international professional experience right now could be the perfect stepping stone.
Her size, skill set, and international exposure align with what scouts are increasingly looking for. Could she be the one to finally break that WNBA barrier for India? The league is growing, and so is the potential for a new wave of global stars. Honey Kaur just might be one of them.
