Harsimran "Honey" Kaur Dhami becomes only third Indian women's basketball player to graduate from an NCAA D1 program
Following in the footsteps of Kavita Akula and Sanjana Ramesh, Harsimran Kaur achieved this milestone earlier this month, from the University of Rhode Island.
Despite relatively fewer exposure opportunities for Indian women’s basketball players, Harsimran Kaur Dhami aka “Honey” has now become only the third-ever desi baller to graduate from an NCAA D1 college in the US.
Following in the footsteps of Kavita Akula and Sanjana Ramesh, Harsimran Kaur achieved this milestone earlier this month, from the University of Rhode Island.
As a senior on her team, Kaur started all 33 games and led the team in scoring (12.2 ppg) and double-doubles (9). Overall, she had four 20+ point games, including a career-high 27 points against Saint Louis last December.
Kaur had transferred to the Rams after spending three years at the University of San Diego. Kaur’s YoY evolution was apparent, with her time and contributions on the floor steadily increasing each season.
What’s next for Honey?
Having now completed her college commitments, it will be interesting to see what this daughter of a former Indian men’s basketball player has planned next.
It is likely Kaur will stay on in the US, having signed with a professional talent management agency last month. No doubt, Kaur will aim to go pro, and perhaps even gunning to become India’s first WNBA player.
But Indian basketball fans will also hope to see Kaur finally return to the national team, with the FIBA Women’s Asia Cup later this July.
