FIBA Asia U16: India's Pool, Games Schedule and Watch Details
India has been grouped alongside Australia, Lebanon and Sri Lanka, with the top three teams progressing to the knockouts
Following the conclusion of last week’s South Asian Basketball Qualifiers, the pools for the upcoming FIBA U16 Asian Championship have been officially announced.
The FIBA U16 Asian Championship will be held at the Al-Gharafa Indoor Stadium in Doha, Qatar, from September 17 to 24.
This is the second straight year in which Qatar is hosting the event.
India in Pool A
India is in Pool A alongside defending champion Australia, last year’s fourth-placed team Lebanon, and Sri Lanka - which will be making its debut in the competition.
Interestingly, it was thanks to India’s fifth-place finish in the previous edition that opened the door for Sri Lanka - to join as the second team from the South Asian sub-zone.
The top three teams from each Pool progress to the knockout stages. While the top two countries from each Pool proceed directly to the quarterfinals, the third-placed team will have to play an extra pre-quarterfinals game.
In other words, recent scares notwithstanding, India will be confident of at least a spot in the pre-quarterfinals.
India’s Group Phase Schedule (all times in IST)
September 17, 2 pm: vs Australia
September 18, 10 pm: vs Lebanon
September 19, 5 pm: vs Sri Lanka
*All games are expected to be streamed on FIBA’s YouTube Channel.
India’s Roster
India’s roster is expected to be unchanged from the recent SABA Qualifiers, where the side defended its crown.
