Following Basketball Federation of India (BFI)’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on June 8 in Chennai, additional details have emerged regarding the upcoming 2024-25 National Championships.
As reported in Times of India, Bhavnagar, Gujarat will host the Senior National Basketball Championship in January 2025.
Meanwhile Kolkata and Maharashtra have been announced as hosts of the Youth (U16) and Sub-Junior (U13) Championships to be held later this year.
The exact dates for the above three events are still awaited.
National League Open Bidding on June 25
Among other key announcements at the AGM, it is reported that the open bidding for the National Basketball League tender rights will take place on June 25. The announcement is significant considering that there is currently a stay on the opening of bids, secured via a Karnataka civil court order.
Player Remuneration by end of the Year?
As reported in The Hindu, BFI President Aadhav Arjuna has expressed the possibility of implementing a fixed remunation structure for all players who are part of the national team camps.
New Serbian Coach for 3x3 Teams
Underlining the rise of 3x3 as a distict format, it is reported that BFI will also be appointing a separate coach for India’s 3x3 teams. This coach is reported to be from Serbia and the appointment is likely to be confirmed within a month.
MOU with Corvuss American Academy soon?
Following BFI’s partnership with Manipal University earlier this year, it is likely that Corvuss American Academy will be on-boarded as the Federation’s next ‘National Basketball Academy’.
Corvuss American Academy is an international boarding school for student-athletes located in Karjat, near Mumbai, that was founded by former international basketball player Kunal Maria.
The AGM also made official, the on-boarding of Vector X as BFI’s merchandise partner.
