BFI vs INBL: Karnataka Civil Court Vacates Stay on opening of Pro League Tender Bids
In a significant relief for Basketball Federation of India, the Karnataka Civil Court has ‘vacated’ its earlier ad-interim order that had restrained BFI from opening the tender bids
In a significant relief for Basketball Federation of India, the Karnataka Civil Court, on June 6, ‘vacated’ its earlier ad-interim order that had restrained BFI from opening the tender bids for the proposed National Star Basketball Leagues.
As reported yesterday, the decks are now cleared for BFI to proceed with the opening of the tender bids on June 25.
The Karnataka lower court took note of a Delhi High Court order dated May 31, which observed that ““Prima facie opinion of this court therefore, the defendants cannot be seeking to enforce any right under master rights agreement.”
A day later, on June 7, the appellate bench of the Delhi High Court declined to intervene on INBL’s behalf challenging the May 31 order.
While it is still the prelimiary stage of the legal proceedings, which are expected to continue in both the Karnataka Civil Court as well as the Delhi High Court, for the time being, there are no restrictions on BFI from moving ahead with its proposed National Star Basketball Leagues, independent of INBL.
