BFI signs MOU with Corvuss Academy, as its National Basketball Academy partner
The elite residential international school in Karjat, Maharashtra combines academics and sports, with basketball as one of its key focus areas.
Karjat, July 30 2024: On a rainy day in the lush green valley of Karjat, with over thirty of India’s top young basketball prospects and their parents present - Basketball Federation of India (BFI) President Mr Aadhav Arjuna formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Ms Preeti Maria, the Director of Corvuss American Academy, naming the latter as its official ‘National Basketball Academy’ partner focused on high school students.

54 Players, 26 States
Once the new Academic year starts later towards the end of August, 60 students - 30 girls and 30 boys - will enroll in grades ranging from 6 to 11.
All these students comprise the crème de la crème of India’s U14 to U17 age group national level players, having been selected after special tryouts earlier this year.
The selected students hail from a whopping 26 States across India, including north eastern States like Manipur and Mizoram.
Founded by former international level basketball player Kunal Maria, Corvuss (which is stylized version of the Latin word ‘corvus’ which represents the genus of birds that includes crows and ravens) is an ambitious attempt to provide top-quality sports and educational facilities to Indian athletes looking for a clear pathway to better opportunities, especially via college scholarships abroad.
Top Facilities

Students will be housed in the comfortable air-conditioned residential dorms within Corvuss, study in the classrooms, train in the facilities that include an indoor basketball court, athletic track, indoor squash courts, tennis courts, swimming pool, football field, a cricket ground, work out in the fully equipped gym and eat in the cafeteria under the guidance of a qualified sports nutritionist.
All of this will be completely free of charge for these selected basketball players, with BFI providing additional support by deploying a foreign coach and a national coach.
Considering that the yearly fee for such an institution is around Rs 18 lakh, this is a significant opportunity for these players to make the most of the facilities that would otherwise have been out of their reach.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Arjuna emphasized that such a partnership is a historic milestone in Indian basketball, and only the first step towards setting up other Academies of this kind, with the eventual goal being to help India first qualify and then medal at the Olympics.
