Corvuss announced as 'National Basketball Academy' partner of BFI
The Maharashtra based school becomes the second partner facility of Basketball Federation of India, providing top quality education and training to the nation's best young basketball talents.
After the launch of Basketball Federation of India (BFI)’s ‘National Basketball Academy’ program in February this year, Corvuss American Academy in Karjat, Maharashtra has been announced as its second partner facility.
Located 95 kms away from both Pune and Mumbai, Corvuss is said to be India’s first international residential school for student athletes.
The Academy follows American curriculum and is open to students between grades 6 to 12.
Corvuss was founded by Mr Kunal Maria, a former Indian national team basketball player.
As part of this collaboration, Corvuss will provide holistic academic and sports training to India’s top young basketball prospects identified by BFI’s Talent Research Wing, on a 100% full scholarship basis. In exchange, BFI will be responsible for scouting school students to join the academy, provide standardised coaching curriculum, supply foreign and Indian coaches, organize coaches clinics and certifications for upskilling and ongoing development, as well as diet and nutrition best practices.
Highlighting the benefits of this association, Mr Maria said:
“Corvuss American Academy’s vision aligns with that of the BFI, of helping girls and boys talented in basketball develop their skills by providing the right environment and ecosystem for nurturing grassroots talent to help them develop into future stars for our country. We are privileged and honoured to have this collaboration with the Basketball federation of India and realise the shared goal of identifying, training, educating and mentoring talented basketball players across the country.”
Corvuss is now the second ‘National Basketball Academy’ of BFI, after Manipal University.
The first batch of basketball student-athletes are expected to be welcomed in the upcoming academic year starting in August 2024.
