India Up Against Tournament Favourites China
The official draw, conducted earlier today, has set the stage for a challenging group phase for the Indian men's basketball team. On their road to the knockout stage, India will face off against China, Jordan and Saudi Arabia.
China are the most successful team in Asia Cup history with 16 titles and Jordan has dominated against India in recent meetings. Saudi Arabia, meanwhile, will have the home crowd advantage in Jeddah.
The tournament will follow a single round-robin format in the group stage, with each team playing the others in its group once. The top team from each group will advance directly to the quarterfinals.
The second and third-placed teams from each group will compete in an additional qualification round to advance to the quarter-final round. From the quarterfinals onwards, it becomes a knock-out tournament with the winners reaching the championship final.
This year's FIBA Asia Cup will feature 16 national teams across Asia and Oceania. For the first time ever, three Oceania teams have qualified.
With India just coming off a good run in the FIBA 3X3 Asia Cup reaching the quarterfinals, the Indian cagers will now begin their next phase of preparations, hoping to make a strong impact in the 5v5 format and improve on past performances.
