Vishesh dedicates game winner to his late mother's 'blessings'
Sometimes some plays are beyond any rational explanation. The same can be said about Indian captain Vishesh Bhriguvanshi's unlikely game-winner over Iraq.
"Definitely it was a wonderful three-pointer of my life. I'm thankful to God that somehow I made it and my team has won this game," Vishesh said in the post-game press conference.
"We are lucky. Vishesh scored this lucky shot and we win the game [sic]," was Head Coach Veselin Matic's explanation.
"They scored the way they scored, nothing we can do about that," Iraq Head Coach Aziz Bekir added.
"It was a good game. Came down to the final half-court shot. Tough loss," summed up Iraq's star player Kevin Galloway.
"Mother's Blessings are with me," Vishesh
But it was Vishesh's parting words that lingered on in the minds of those who watched the press conference.
"I can say one more thing... that recently..last month my mom passed and I can say I got this shot because I had to make it and somehow her blessings are with me and I made it."
Whatever may be the reason, the post-win celebrations were definitely unique and special.
India next faces Group toppers Lebanon on Monday, 22nd February at 7:30 pm IST. The game will be live streamed on FIBA’s Youtube Channel and the FIBA Asia Cup Facebook page. Additionally, fans can also tune in for free via signing up on the LiveBasketballTV website/app.
