Twelve Indian Ballers from NBA Academy attend Elite Camp in China
The Fourth Asia Pacific Team Camp presented by Nike, took place at the Zhejiang Provincial Sport Vocational Technical Institute in Hangzhou, China, from June 18th to 21st, 2017.
The camp was attended by 73 boys and girls from Australia, China, India, Korea, and New Zealand, and the NBA selected twelve players from the NBA Academy India to participate at this elite training camp.
The camp was a huge opportunity for these players to further their development, as it was coached by former NBA players and coaches.

Image credits: NBA India Bengaluru, 21st June 2017: It is no secret that the NBA is focused on expanding its presence and increasing basketball’s popularity in the East. Towards this end, the NBA has opened elite basketball academies in Australia, China, and India over the last few years. The NBA Academy India has been established at the Jaypee Greens Integrated Sports Complex in the National Capital Region. Currently, 21 young male players are attending the Academy on scholarships. They benefit from a holistic approach to player development that also focuses on education, leadership, character development, and life skills. Since 2011, the NBA has also been organizing elite training camps every two years, previously held at Melbourne, Australia (2011) and Nanjing, China (2013 and 2015). This year, the Fourth Asia Pacific Team Camp presented by Nike, took place at the Zhejiang Provincial Sport Vocational Technical Institute in Hangzhou, China, from June 18th to 21st, 2017. 73 boys and girls from Australia, China, India, Korea, and New Zealand attended the camp.
The NBA selected twelve of the twenty one attendees at the NBA Academy India to participate at this elite training camp. The players who attended the camp were Robin Banerjee, Vivek Chauhan, Jagshaanbir Jhawar, Sejin Mathew, Shanmugam Murugan, Riyanshu Negi, Suraj Pathak, Preshit Pawar, Prashant Rawat, Parth Sunil Kumar Sharma, Princepal Singh, and Manoj Singh Sisodiya. The camp was a major opportunity for the players to further their development. The players benefitted from being coached by NBA players Malik Beasley (Denver Nuggets), Andrew Nicholson (Brooklyn Nets), and Garrett Temple (Sacramento Kings), WNBA player Zheng Haixia (the first Chinese WNBA player), and NBA assistant coaches Ryan Bowen (Denver Nuggets), Charles Klask (Detroit Pistons), Bob Thornton (Sacramento Kings). The players engaged in a number of activities on and off the court that will focus on a range of skills including movement efficiency, positional skill, shooting, as well as health, leadership, and communication. The camp also included community outreach efforts through the NBA Cares programme, reaching out to the youth in Hangzhou in partnership with local community organizations.
