The 43rd Kerala State Sub Junior Basketball Championship

* The stage is all set for the 43rd installment of the Kerala State State Sub. Jr Basketball Championship to take place at Thiruvalla on the 21st of May*

Thiruvalla, 19th May, 2016: Sanjayan Kumar (IFS), Director Sports & Youth affairs will inaugurate the 43rd Kerala State Sub Junior Basketball Championships for boys & girls 2016, here at the Christ Central School, Thiruvalla, on the 21st May at 4:00 PM.

This five day championship will be organised by the Christ Central School, Thiruvalla in association with Pathanamthitta District Basketball Association, under the auspicious of Kerala Basketball Association, at the Christ Central School flood lit basketball ground, and at the Public Stadium, Thiruvalla. An organising committee, under Dr Sriram Venkitraman (IAS), Sub Collector of Thiruvalla, are working hard for the successful conduct of this championship .The teams are divided into four groups and the tournament will be played on a league cum knock-out basis. 13 Districts in boys and 12 in girls will be participating in this championship. The state team to participate in the National Sub Junior Championship to be held in Lal Bahadhur Shastri Stadium, Hyderabad from the 1st to the 7th, will be selected on the basis of this championship. Kottayam in the boys section and Kozhikode in the girls, are the reigning champions. Two teams from each pool will qualify for the knock-out stage.

Kerala Basketball Association will be honoring the Kerala women’s team who were winners of the 30th Federation Cup Basketball Championship held in Goa, and the Kerala boys team who won a Silver Medal after a gap of 19 years at the 67th Junior National Basketball Championship held at Puducherry.

The presence of Jeena P S, the fifth best shooter at the recently concluded Asian Championship is expected, along with Senior Indian international players: Stephy Nixon, Anjana P G and Neenumol P S, Junior International player Elizabeth Hillarios and Youth International players: Vimmy Varkey and Vinaya Joseph.
