T Chandrasekaran Nair Passes Away
Thiruvananthapuram, 6th November, 2016: The Kerala basketball community was rocked on Thursday as Kerala forward/center and former State Captain, T. Chandrasekaran Nair passed away due to a massive cardiac arrest while in his office at the Kerala University. He was serving as the chief security officer of Kerala University.
He is survived by his mother Susheela, Wife Dr. Sree Latha and two daughters Arathy (MBA student) Aiswarya (+2) and his brother Shaji TS, who is also a former state player.
As the news of his demise broke, his fellow players took it to social media to pay tribute to the hardnosed defender.
Those who paid their condolenses, includes Arjuna Awardee Geethu Ana Rahul, International Muhammed Iqbal, Jayasankar, Prasanna Jayasankar, Interational Commissioner Naresh Aneeja and the people from States Gulf.
He started his playing days in University College before joining in 1983-84 with Mar Ivanios college and was able to bring the college the University Championship later. Chandran was always tough on the court and never missed practice. He was a smaller post player than others but was tough and know how to force his way to the basket. Off the court he was so friendly and also a regular member at the India coffee House Thiruvananthapuram.
On a remarkable day in 1991, in Trivandrum, during the Senior Nationals, he helped Kerala Senior Men team win their first ever Bronze Medal in the senior level, along with C V Sunny and C Suresh.
After Joining Kerala Police in 1985 he represented the state continuously for 8 years till 1993. He captained the Kerala State Senior Team 1989 at Jamshedpur and also the State Police.
He also served Thiruvananthapuram District Basketball Association as Secretary in which a Sub Junior National Championship was also conducted at Thiruvananthapuram.
