The National Sports Promotion Organization-backed Stairs Youth National Games were held from April 27 to 30 at Delhi's Indira Gandhi Arena.
The Stairs Youth National Games, supported by the National Sports Promotion Organization, took center stage from April 27 to 30 at the iconic Indira Gandhi Arena in Delhi.
Over 5,000 budding athletes, aged between 8 to 19, hailing from 15 states, descended upon the arena to compete fiercely for top honors. Representing a diverse array of regions including Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, and beyond, the championship truly embodied the spirit of national unity through sports.
The basketball courts at the KD Jadhav Stadium served as the battleground for intense matchups, featuring both boys and girls in the U14, U17, and U19 categories. The league matches were a spectacle of skill and determination, showcasing the future stars of Indian basketball.
Maharashtra Teams Shine
In a remarkable display of dominance, the teams from Maharashtra clinched three coveted 1st place positions. Under the astute guidance of Coach Ritesh Rao, the U-14 Boys' team showcased their prowess by overcoming stiff competition from Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, ultimately triumphing over Karnataka in a thrilling finale with a narrow 3-point lead. The lineup, featuring stellar players like point guard Samar Hingorani, shooting guard Dev Parekh, and center Smit Raut, left an indelible mark on the tournament.
Not to be outdone, the U-14 Girls' team, under the tutelage of Coach Nilesh Yadav, exhibited sheer grit and determination to secure their championship title.
Meanwhile, the U-17 Girls' team, led by the experienced guidance of Coach Kshitij Abnave, displayed a masterclass performance to clinch victory and add another feather to Maharashtra's cap.
As the curtains drew on the Stairs Youth National Games, it was evident that the future of Indian basketball shines brightly, with these young athletes poised to make significant strides in the sport on both national and international stages.
