SABA U18 Men: India through to finals
India beats Bangladesh 110-37 in the final pool game to finish with a perfect 3-0 record in the South Asian Basketball Association Championship
Colombo, July 12 2024: Overwhelming favourites and defending champions India completed the formalities of a 110-37 win over bottom placed Bangladesh, to finish on top of the pool and progress to the finals of the South Asian Basketball Association (SABA) U18 Men’s Championship that is underway at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium.
Bangladesh meanwhile has been eliminated from the tournament - having previously lost to Maldives and Sri Lanka - ending the championship with a 0-3 record.
In the finals, to be played on July 13 at 6:30 pm, India will face the winner of the last pool game between Sri Lanka and Maldives - who are both currently sporting a 1-1 record.
The winning team from this SABA Championship will progress to the FIBA U18 Asia Cup that will be held in Jordan later this September.
As has been the case throughout this Championship, and like in previous editions, the much taller and athletic Indian team completely controlled the paint - restricting Bangladesh to Hail Marys from beyond the arc. India enjoyed a 74-8 advantage in points in the paint, a 65-37 diffential on the glass, 43-0 fast break points, and 42-14 in bench points to secure the lopsided win.
