RCB Stampede: Basketball Player Among 11 Deceased
19-year-old Chinmayi Shetty - who hailed from South Coastal Karnataka - was a first year student at a private engineering degree in Bengaluru
As more details around last week’s tragic stampede following Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s IPL triumph come to light, it has emerged that one of the 11 deceased happened to be a budding basketball player.

19-year-old Chinmayi Shetty, who hailed from South Coastal Karnataka, was a first-year engineering student at Jyothy Institute of Technology, Bengaluru. She was a member of the college’s basketball team that participated in local tournaments.
‘Did Not Even Like Cricket’
As reported in The Hindu, Chinmayi’s father K. Karunakar Shetty said, “My daughter did not even like cricket and by some cruel twist of fate, she ended up there.”
She was reportedly present at the stadium only to accompany her friends.

"She called me around 1.30 pm on Wednesday, told me that about a 100 of her batchmates were going to the stadium. I did not think twice before agreeing to let her join. And see what has happened," said Shetty, to Deccan Herald.
