Punjabi University, Patiala and Chandigarh University, Mohali Post Dominant Wins
The 1st semifinal of the day took place with home team Punjabi University, Patiala (PUP) facing off against Osmania University, Hyderabad (OU). Osmania University was considered the underdogs, but no one was prepared for the devastation Punjabi University was about to send Osmania’s way. From the kickoff, PUP started with an intensity that OU simply could not match. OU’s team looked out of their depth, with their defensive unit getting shredded by PU’s offensive linemen. PU’s star running back, Chawla, scored 2 touchdowns in the 1st quarter itself and the game looked all but over at halftime with Punjabi University enjoying a 4 touchdown lead. PU did not let their huge lead affect their intensity and scored 2 more touchdowns. The semifinal ended up being the highest scoring game of the tournament so far, score being 39-0.
A player from Osmania University gets tackled by the Punjabi University Defense
The 2nd semifinal between Chandigarh University, Mohali (CU) and MD University, Rohtak (MDU) was expected to be more competitive with bets being placed on both sides. MDU’s offensive brilliance was well known, with brilliant play from their quarterback as well as their receivers. On the other hand, CU was a defensive juggernaut and had not allowed a single touchdown throughout the tournament. Chandigarh started strong with their throttling defense not allowing MDU to gain any yards. CU used defense to fuel offense and came away with multiple interceptions. CU had a 3 touchdown lead by halftime and used this momentum to catapult themselves to a total of 5 touchdowns. 4 of their 5 touchdowns were scored by different players, which was a testament to their overall greatness. The saying “Offense wins games, Defense win championships” ran true and Chandigarh University came away with a huge win, score being 33-0.

About Association of Indian Universities (AIU)
The idea of bringing together all the universities on a common platform emerged from the deliberations of a Conference of the Vice Chancellors of Universities convened by Lord Reading, the then Viceroy of India at Shimla in 1924. The Inter-University Board (IUB) of India was subsequently formed on March 23, 1925, with the view of promoting university activities, especially by way of sharing information and co-operation in the field of education, culture, sports and allied areas. The Inter-University Board acquired a legal status with its registration in 1967 as a Society under the Societies Registration Act, 1860. In 1973, it assumed its present name: The Association of Indian Universities (AIU). The membership includes traditional universities, open universities, professional universities, Institutes of National Importance and deemed-to-be universities. In addition, there is a provision of granting of Associate Membership to universities of neighbouring countries.
