Nagaland Basketball Teams Announced for 2023 Senior Nationals
Interestingly, 19 out of 24 players are from the capital district of Kohima alone.
Nagaland’s men’s and women’s basketball teams have been announced for the 73rd Senior National Basketball Championship to be held in Ludhiana, Punjab from December 3 to 10.
Interestingly 10 out of 12 players in the men’s team, and nine out of 12 in the women’s section are from Kohima District (‘Kma’) alone. Other districts being represented are Mokokchung (‘Mkg’), Dimapur and Phek.
“One of the reasons for less representation from other districts is because we hold our trials in Dimapur & Kohima only. Players from other districts will have to travel overnight to attend trials. Moreover, it's difficult for students to get leave from institutions,” said Mr Sentiningsang Longkumer, General Secretary, Nagaland Basketball Association. “I am trying to activate these district associations (Mon, Kiphire, Shamator, Peren, Tuensang, Zunheboto, Niuland, Noklak, Tseminyu etc). As of now, only Dimapur & Kohima are active.”
