Mysuru, Karnataka, 21 December 2024: The first game day of the Challengers Cup on 20 December witnessed intense battles on the court of the National Sports Club, the heritage hub of Mysore Basketball.
The 3rd All-India Intercollegiate Basketball Tournament, hosted by Challenger’s Academy in affiliation with the Mysuru District Basketball Association (MDBBA), is underway, featuring the top men’s college teams across South India.
In the opening game, Sahrdaya College of Advanced Studies (Thrissur) clinched a 13-point victory over Talents College (Mysuru), finishing 66-53. Sahrdaya's dominant defense and seamless end-to-end ball movement proved pivotal in neutralizing Talents College's offensive efforts, setting a strong tone for the day.
Game 2 saw Kumaraguru Institutions (Coimbatore) dismantle JSS University (Mysuru) with a commanding 52-34 win. Kumaraguru’s free-flowing offense and clinical defense stifled JSS, restricting their scoring opportunities and dictating the pace throughout the match.
Jain University’s Masterclass
Later, Jain University (Bengaluru) put on a basketball masterclass, overpowering NIE College (Mysuru) 54-24. Jain’s relentless defense and sharp offense left NIE struggling to keep up, as they cruised to a comfortable victory.
The day’s action concluded with CMR University (Bengaluru) defeating JSS University (Mysuru) 51-31. Despite a slow start, CMR made critical mid-game adjustments to overcome a JSS side playing their second game of the day.
Earlier in the day, the tournament's inauguration ceremony honored young athletes Sravani, Sumanth, and Ronak from Mysuru for their stellar performances in the Under-13, Under-16, and Under-18 National Championships, adding a celebratory note to an action-packed opening day.
