Madhya Pradesh beat Karnataka at 33rd Youth Nationals
Hassan, Karnataka, 21st November, 2016: Entering the third day at the 33rd Youth National Basketball Championship 2016 at Hassan, the stronger teams continued their good run.
The Uttar Pradesh boys dominated in the second half against Maharashtra leading to a blowout 79-46 victory. Priyanshu went on a scoring tear for UP finishing the game with 37 points. Joint defending champions Delhi boys won the game of the tournament today against the towering Punjab team Despite being undersized, Delhi was able to contain the Punjab frontline as they came from behind late in the game to pull off a 69-68 win Four Delhi players scored in double digits with Abhishek Sharma top scoring with 23 points.
In the level 2 games, West Bengal handed Puducherry another defeat, leading from start to finish and picking up a 88-40 win. The Uttarakhand boys got the better of Bihar with a 56-30 victory. On the other hand, the Uttarakhand girls fell to Gujarat 38-14, while the Odisha girls defeated Delhi 51-42.
Post lunch, joint defending champions Tamil Nadu girls handed Punjab another defeat (70-41). Centre Avanti Vardhan dominated on the inside for Tamil Nadu and top scored with 20 points. The other half of the joint defending champions Chhattisgarh girls also had a good outing today defeating Maharashtra 72-64. Former MVP at the U14 level, Chhattisgarh’s Elizabet Ekka put in a game-high 31 points. Home team Karnataka girls had their first taste of defeat today against a spirited Madhya Pradesh team. Led by Isha Chouhan’s 33 points, Madhya Pradesh came from behind in the fourth quarter to pull off a 71-69 victory.
In the boys’ level 1 games, Chhattisgarh got the better of Haryana in a high scoring contest. Speedy guards Salim Ali (32 points) and Binod Rajak (23 points) provided the one-two punch for Chhattisgarh, who withstood the Haryana comeback to seal a 92-88 victory.

About the 33rd Youth National Basketball Championship 2016
The 33rd Youth National Basketball Championship for U16 boys and girls is being held in Hassan, Karnataka from the 19th to the 26th of November, 2016.
The matches are being conducted at three venues - the indoor and outdoor courts of the Hasanamba Stadium and the courts of the Malnad College of Engineering.
The championship is being organised by Karnataka State Basketball Association (KSBBA) under the aegis of Basketball Federation of India (BFI). The inauguration ceremony will be held on Saturday, 19th November at 4:15 pm.
Championship Details
In total, 24 boys teams and 22 girls teams are participating in the eight day tournament. As always, the teams have been divided into upper Level 1 and lower Level 2. Within each Level, the teams are further divided into Groups A & B (Level 1) and Groups C to F (for Level 2 teams).
This is a league cum knockout format, and as many as 122 matches will be played from early morning to late night. The top teams after the group stages will proceed to the knockout rounds. There is also a system of relegation/promotion whereby the bottom two Level 1 teams will get relegated to Level 2 for the next edition, replaced by the top two teams from Level 2.
Prior to the 2016 edition, 32 iterations of the Championship have been held so far. The 2015 edition was held in Bhavnagar & Anand in Gujarat. Due to incessant rains, the finals were washed out. As a result, Tamil Nadu and Delhi boys, and Tamil Nadu and Chhattisgarh girls were declared joint winners.
