Kottayam boys, Thiruvananthapuram girls win the 34th Kerala State Basketball Championship for Youth
Mannanam, 21st May 2017- Kottayam boys successfully defended their title while the Thiruvananthapuram girls made a strong comeback in the finals to be crowned champions of the 34th edition of the Kerala State Basketball Championship for Youth Boys and Girls 2017. The tournament was played between 16-21 May at the St Ephrem’s Basketball Flood Lit Indoor Stadium, Mannanam and at KE School Mannanam.

In the girls division, after trailing 31-46 at the interval, Thiruvananthapuram made a strong comeback through Sreekala (37 points) who recently returned after an impressive performance for India at the FIBA 3x3 U18 Asia Cup. She was well assisted by Ameesha Jose (17 points) and Jiji S (11 points) and Krishnapriya (10 points). For Thrissur, Aparna Sadasivan was the leading scorer with 24 Points and Sandra Contributing 21 points

The boys final turned out to be a lopsided affair after an evenly contested first half. For Kottayam, Jerome Prince was the leading scorer with 23 points followed by David CV and Dinoy scoring 12 points each. For Idukki, Tom Jose was the leading scorer with 18 points.
Bronze for Alappuzha Boys and Kottayam Girls
Alappuzha boys defeated Thrissur 61-46 while Kottayam Girls trounced Kannur 41-20 to claim the Bronze medal
