Jain University’s All India Sports Fest “VIE” kicks off in Bengaluru in grand style

Bengaluru, 14th February 2016: Jain University Bengaluru’s mega all India inter-collegiate sports tournament has kicked off in the city. The 17th All India Sports Fest ‘VIE’ is being held from 14th to 17th February 2016.
The inauguration ceremony took place a short while ago at the Kittur Rani Chenamma Stadium, Madhavan Park, Jayanagar IIIrd block, Bengaluru. Dr R Chenraj Roychand, President of Jain University was the chief guest. Other guests of honour were Todd Mack, MD, United Basketball Alliance (UBA), Sri BN Vijay Kumar, MLA (Jayanagar), Sri N Nagaraju, Corporator- Jayanagar BBMP, Dr N Sunderarajan, Vice Chancellor- Jain University, PS Muralidhar, former MLA and former international baseball player, and Dr BT Venkatesh, Controller of Examination- Jain University.
Sri Ananth Kumar and Sri Vijay Kumar were unable to attend but conveyed their best wishes to the participating teams.
“Year on year our students are performing not only at the local level but also internationally. It comes only with hard work and extraordinary dedication. The success of Jain is because of its young minds who move us ahead and inspire us. VIE gives students a platform to showcase their talents,” said Dr R Chenraj Roychand, President of Jain University.
VIE 2016 Trophy is unveiled
“I would like to thank all the sponsors who supported us in this event. When Jain started as a college it was tough to get students in the field of sports. Today we have four of our students in the current senior Indian cricket team, 16 players under the hammer in IPL, world champions like Pankaj Advani, and Rohan Bopanna representing us at the Olympics,” said Dr Sankar UV, Director (Sports) Jain University.
Dr N Sunderarajan, Vice Chancellor- Jain University and Sri N Nagaraju also spoke on this occasion.
Post the inauguration, a massive six feet tall VIE trophy was unveiled amidst fireworks. Jain students then went on to regale the crowd with performances that ranged from traditional dances, beat boxing.
United Basketball Alliance (UBA) makes its presence felt

“I would like to thank Jain University for providing us the facilities for the training camp recently.” said Mr Todd Mack, before explaining the overarching goals of UBA in India. UBA is India’s first professional basketball league and the teams have been training over the last one week at the Jain International Residential School, Bengaluru. “We have had around 200 of India’s best basketball players show up for the tryouts, and our coaches did a great job in picking the best players.”
The second season of the UBA Pro Basketball League will tip off in Pune on 18th February 2016. Professional players from all eight franchises were present and displayed their shooting skills through a three point competition.
About VIE 2016
This year 1500+ athletes from 62 colleges are participating in 11 different sports: cricket (men), kabaddi (men), hockey (men), football (men- local colleges only), basketball (men and women), badminton (men and women), table tennis (men and women), tennis (men and women), tennis (men and women), swimming (men and women), volleyball (men and women) and karate (men and women- local colleges only).
Out of the 62 participating colleges, 24 are outstation teams, while 38 teams are from Bengaluru. Teams from Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh will be participating, making this a massive national event.
Keeping in mind the rising popularity of kabaddi, for the first time, the sport has been introduced in VIE-2016, alongwith women’s volleyball and karate.

“VIE” started under the guidance of Sri R Chenraj Jain, Chairman, Sri Bhagawan Mahaveer Jain College (SBMJC) in the year 2000 and was conducted under floodlights as a local tournament with over 20 colleges from all over the state participated in the mega event where SBMJC finished as the overall champions.
