India's top basketball players to get monthly salaries

The proposed remuneration plan is expected to include a fixed monthly payment of ₹1 lakh for players in the top A category, while those in the B category will receive ₹50,000/- per month.

In a significant development for Indian basketball, it is reliably learnt that the Basketball Federation of India (BFI) is gearing up to announce a comprehensive remuneration plan for players across all national teams, including both men's and women's squads. The plan will cover the top 32 players across two categories A and B, as well as the U18 boys' and girls' teams.

In an exclusive interaction with Ekalavyas, BFI President Mr Aadhav Arjuna revealed that it will finalize the remuneration details in the upcoming Executive Committee (EC) meeting scheduled later this month.

The proposed remuneration plan is expected to include a fixed monthly payment of ₹1 lakh for players in the top A category, while those in the B category will receive ₹50,000/- per month.

The BFI has emphasized its commitment to providing proper financial support to its players, ensuring that they are adequately compensated for their efforts on the court. The final decision on the remuneration structure will be made during the EC meeting, after which the Federation will make an official announcement, detailing the monthly payments for all the selected players.

This initiative is expected to boost the morale of Indian basketball players and encourage greater participation and dedication to the sport at the national level.

Notably, this is not the first time player salaries were introduced. Back in 2011, a similar scheme was announced for the top 75 players, which was subsequently discontinued.
