Meet India's 'Crossover Kavi' - aka the 'Basketball Poet'

21-year-old Dev Karan Sharma is a 6ft 4 inch pro baller who is also passionate about poetry.

21-year-old Dev Karan Sharma from Kaithal, Haryana is a 6ft 4 inch pro baller who has played in Nepal’s National Basketball League and India’s Elite Pro Basketball League.

But he is also a poet - with over 11k+ strong following on Instagram.

Sharma was always interested in poetry, but never posted publicly until a few years ago, due to macho stereotypes associated with sportspersons.

His father, a former international basketball player himself, was initially unsupportive of Sharma’s artistic inclinations, while Sharma’s teammates used to joke: “dekho kavi aa gaya.” (see, the poet has come)

Slowly Sharma grew in confidence as he started receiving positive comments for his verses.

He now plans to continue pursuing shaayari while keeping his hoop dreams alive.
