Indian National Basketball Academy: BFI asks States to nominate players by April 25
Minimum 10 tall and dynamic boys and girls aged 12-13 years from each State are expected to compete in the tryouts, the dates of which are TBD.
In a letter dated April 17 addressed to all the State Association Secretaries, Basketball Federation of India has invited them to nominate players to try out for its recently announced National Basketball Academy program.
Partnering with Educational Institutions
As highlighted in the letter, “Basketball Federation of India is collaborating with international educational institutions to provide academic education alongside basketball training at no expense to the selected players.”
States have been asked to recommend a minimum of 10 (5 boys + 5 girls) “tall and dynamic players aged 12-13 years…born on or after January 1, 2012, or January 1, 2013”.
Earlier this February, Manipal University, Karnataka was announced as BFI’s first National Basketball Academy partner.
Formal announcement on the second National Basketball Academy partner (most probably an international sports-focused residential school in Maharashtra) is expected in coming weeks.
Benefits
The letter goes on to elaborate that the “chosen players will receive a range of benefits, including coaching by international experts, free education, lodging facilities at no cost, nutritional support provided free of charge, and participation in exposure tournaments.”
What’s Next?
The nominated players from each State will need to attend tryouts for final selection. The dates of these selection tryouts are yet to be announced.
The final deadline for States to send in the initial list of nominated players is April 25.
How to apply?
Since all nominations can be submitted only through BFI’s affiliated units, players/parents/coaches interested in submitting nominations must contact their respective State Associations. The contact details of all the Affiliated Units can be accessed via the BFI website.
