MCA Secunderabad stunned fancied South Central Railway 75 - 66 in the finals of the GM Sampath Kumar Annual League Basketball Championship 2023-24 to be crowned CHAMPIONS.
The match started on an even note with score going neck to neck, Railwaymen dealing in 3-pointers whereas YMCA scoring through drive-ins as YMCA led 19 - 18 at the end of 1st quarter.
YMCA, In a thrilling display of defense in the 2nd quarter with Vivek, Harsha and Rohan affecting numerous blocks and steals in the paint restricted Railway to just 15 points and in turn scored FIVE 3-pointers through Rohan and Nathan to take a massive 41 - 31 lead at half time.
After change of ends Railwaymen regrouped and scoring 24 points through Akash, Raju and Ajith and restricted YMCA to just 15 points as Railways reduced the lead to just 3 points to 52 - 55 at end of 3rd quarter.
Within 4 minutes of the 4th quarter scores were level 57 - 57, thereafter score went neck to neck. With just 3 minutes left for the match scores were level 62 - 62. At this moment Vivek of YMCA affected three consecutive blocks in the paint denying Railways baskets and with Rohan and Nathan scoring concecutive 3-pointers and with Samuel scoring through a fast break, YMCA raced to a 8 point lead at 70 - 62, thereafter YMCA maintained the lead with their tight defense and finally won the match 75 - 66.
