Group C Home Games Conclude at the ISBL

Kozhikode, 23rd September, 2016: The preliminary matches of the Indian School Basketball League (ISBL) took place here on the 23rd of September, at the Manchira Maidan In Kozhikode and Sacred Heart CMI School in Thevara.

The Indian School Basketball League (ISBL) is an effort to lift basketball up from the grass-roots, and is being organized by the Basketball Federation of India in collaboration with Kerala Basketball Association.

The stated idea is to create a structured, self-sustaining, pan-India, school league which will serve as a platform to increase the participation in organised basketball, and subsequently will work as the talent development/feeder system for the Indian national teams.

Apart from Kerala, 15 other States are participating in the league. These include: Punjab, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Telangana, West Bengal, Gujarat, Chattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan and Mizoram.

In Kerala, the preliminary rounds of the ISBL are being played at five centers Kochi, Koratty, Kottayam, Thiruvananthapuram, Kozhikde. They are being played in a round robin format, in which the sixteen (16) teams; 4 each in boys and girls are divided into four (4) groups of four (4) teams in five centers . Every team will take on its three (3) opponents twice in its respective group. 2 teams from each group will advance to the final which will be played at Kottayam. The State finals will be played in a knockout format.

In Kozhikode Girls Division, St. Michaels came away undefeated, winning all 3 group matches in the first round. Similarly, Sacred Heart Public School, Thevra also won their 3 matches, as the home matches in Group C concluded.

In Ernakulum Boys Division, Sacred Heart CMI Public School defeated St. Josephs HSS, Pulicunnu (61-57) and St. Josephs finished 2nd with 2 win and 1 loss.

St. Michaels, in their last league match beat Presentation (39-30) to top the group and Providence took the  second  spot with 2 wins and 1 loss.
