Former BFI President K Govindaraj named FIBA Asia President
As per FIBA's rotation policy, the next President had to come from the South Asian Basketball Association (SABA) zone.
Former BFI President K Govindaraj has been elected unopposed as the next FIBA Asia President for the 2023-27 cycle.

The elections were held earlier today during the 2023 FIBA Asia General Assembly, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Following the Delhi High Court order on May 2 appointing an administrator to take over BFI affairs, the 2023 FIBA Asia General Assembly had been shifted from India to Malaysia.
Next FIBA Asia President to be from SABA Zone
As per the FIBA Internal Regulations, the next vacancy for the FIBA Asia President post (2023-2027 cycle) needed to be filled by a member from the South Asian Basketball Association (SABA) zone.

It remains to be seen if the ongoing BFI elections case - which could see a new set of office bearers take charge - adversely affects the eligibility of Mr Govindaraj's candidacy for the FIBA Asia President post, considering he was not a current member of the national basketball federation at the time when the election results were announced.
