Five Basketball Players inducted into Khelo India Scheme
A total of 65 basketball players have been added in 2023 so far, while 47 have been "weeded out"
As per a notification dated August 21, 2023, published on the Khelo India website, five basketball players have been freshly inducted into the Khelo India scheme.
The Talent Identification and Development Committee (TIDC) recommended the inclusion of the following basketball players:
Siddharth Mann (DOB: 01-02-2009; Gender: Male; State/UT: Delhi)
Diya Sehrawat (DOB: 18-11-2010; Gender: Female; State/UT: Delhi)
Gurasees Kaur Sandhu (DOB: 08-05-2009; Gender: Female; State/UT: Punjab)
Afreen (DOB: 18-01-2010; Gender: Female; State/UT: Uttar Pradesh)
Neha Mandavi (DOB: 18-06-2008; Gender: Female; State/UT: Chhattisgarh)
All the facilities and entitlements extended under the Khelo India Scheme will be available to these athletes, with effect from September 1, 2023.
Khelo India Scholars have the option of joining one of the eleven accredited basketball academies across India. However, in case they want to train in their existing academies they will be given monetary support of Rs. 10,000/- per month as out-of-pocket allowance.
65 basketball players added in 2023, 47 “weeded out”
The abovementioned five players are only the latest inductees. Earlier in July, 23 players were inducted, while in May, 37 players were added. The month of May, also say 47 players being “weeded out” of the scheme.
As per the Khelo India dashboard, there are currently 109 Khelo India athletes in the basketball discipline, out of which 60 are male and 49 are female.
