Challenger's Cup: Mysuru To Host India's Premier College Basketball Tournament from December 20-22
The 3rd edition of the elite cup competition, featuring top Indian colleges, promises high-stakes action and an enhanced prize pool of ₹1,15,000.
Mysuru, 2 December 2024: The 3rd All-India Intercollegiate Basketball Tournament, organized by Challenger’s Academy (affiliated to Mysuru District Basketball Association i.e. ‘MDBBA’), promises three days of intense action as top college teams from the country battle for all the bragging rights of winning the Challengers Cup.
Since its inception in 2021, the Challenger’s Cup has become a celebrated event in Indian collegiate basketball, bringing together the best talent from Bengaluru, Chennai, Coimbatore, and Mysuru. This year, the stakes are high with a ₹1,15,000 cash prize pool, including ₹60,000 for the winners.
What to expect at the Challenger’s Cup 2024
Defending champions Sathyabama University (Chennai) will aim to retain their title, while strong contenders like PSG College (Coimbatore), Jain University (Bengaluru), and Christ University (Bengaluru) seek redemption.
The tournament offers free food and accommodation to all the participating teams and will adhere to the latest BFI rules. Discipline remains key, with stringent ID checks and bonafide certificates required from all players. Misconduct will lead to immediate disqualification and notification to institutions.
Registrations close on December 10, 2024, and teams are encouraged to confirm travel plans in advance. The event is not just a competition but a celebration of basketball in Mysuru, a city renowned for its royal heritage and vibrant culture.
When asked about his vision for the tournament and its significance for basketball in Mysuru, Organizing Secretary Mr. Brijesh Patel shared:
"My dream is to create a college league where players are financially supported, just like in professional leagues. The Challenger’s Cup aims to give exposure to players while creating awareness about basketball in Mysuru."
