Tamil Nadu’s Rajalakshmi Baskar Sundari and Kerala’s Jins Joby have been invited to the 2024 Basketball Without Borders (BWB) Asia camp, which will be held in Australia.
The prestigious Basketball Without Borders (BWB) Asia camp, now in its 14th edition, is being organized by the NBA and FIBA in collaboration with the National Basketball League (NBL).
Scheduled from September 19 to 22, 2024 at the NBA Global Academy in Perth, the camp will bring together 60 of the top high-school-age prospects from over 15 countries across the Asia-Pacific region.
About Rajalakshmi and Jins
Rajalakshmi Baskar Sundari first gained national attention at the 30th Youth National Basketball Championship in 2023. Averaging 14.6 points per game, she played a pivotal role in leading Tamil Nadu to a gold medal and was named the tournament's MVP. Known for her precision as a 3-point shooter, Rajalakshmi trained at the Centre of Sports Excellence, Chennai. Rajalakshmi has earned high praise from her coach Mr Manivasagamand Sai Mayildurai not only for her outside shooting, but her all-around abilities.
Jins Joby has represented India in the U16 circuit, participating in both the FIBA U16 Asian Championship SABA Qualifiers and the FIBA U16 Asian Championship 2023. Standing at 6'5", the forward from Kerala was recommended for the Basketball Without Borders (BWB) Asia camp by India’s head coach Scott Flemming, because of his performances during the U18 Indian Camp.
Ex-NBA and WNBA Players as Trainers
Rajalakshmi and Jins will train under the guidance of veteran NBA, WNBA, and FIBA stars, including Aron Baynes, a three-time FIBA World Cup player, and Cynthia Cooper, a four-time WNBA champion and Olympic gold medalist.
The BWB camp not only focuses on basketball excellence but also fosters leadership and personal development. Participants will engage in a variety of drills, skill stations, 5-on-5 games, and life-skills development sessions. On the final day, standout players will be recognized with prestigious awards such as the Kim Bohuny Camp MVP and the Patrick Baumann Sportsmanship Award.
This year’s camp will run alongside the inaugural ‘HoopsFest’, a multi-day basketball celebration in Perth, creating an unforgettable experience for all involved.
Notable BWB Alumni from India
Some of the notable Indian national team players who have attended past editions of BWB Asia include Arjuna Awardee Vishesh Bhriguvanshi, NBA G-League Draftee Palpreet Singh Brar, current NCAA Division 1 players Harsimran Kaur, Ann Mary Zachariah and Amaan Singh Sandhu, and current Indian U18 team center Mohammad Ishan.
