Manan Awal, a 17-year-old 12th-grade high school student of The Shri Ram School- Aravali, Gurugram has created an app called Sports SensAI that “utilizes pose recognition technology to analyze various aspects of a player's shooting action, such as release angle, height, and elbow position, and the trajectory of the ball into the basket.”
“As a national-level basketball player, I recognize the importance of proficient shooting techniques and the struggles players face with their shooting action, so I created an app,” Awal told Ekalavyas.com.
By providing users with detailed statistical feedback, the app aims to improve shooting accuracy and track players' progress. Additionally, coaches will have access to valuable and improved feedback mechanisms, which can foster a desire for improvement among young athletes.
Currently, Awal is collaborating with five sports academies and two schools across Delhi-NCR. With the help of this app, more than 50 students have benefited and are improving their shooting techniques.
Awal candidly admits that the feedback has been mixed, with some coaches familiar with tech being appreciative, while others felt it was “a bit too time-consuming.”
Awal hopes to join an American university next year, where he intends to continue developing the app’s features - especially its User Interface (UI), and also consult with expert coaches so as to include recommendations on the ideal shooting angle.
You can test out the app on the Sports SensAI website.
