Assumption wins Kerala Inter Collegiate Basketball Tournament

Babykutty: In a scintillating performance, Assumption College, Changancherry took the title as they beat Providence College, Kozhikode 55-25 in the final of the Golden Jubilee Memorial 17th All Kerala Inter Collegiate Basketball Tournament here at the Assumption College Flood Lit Indoor Basketball Stadium in Changancherry.

In a combined effort and with the support of a vociferous crowd, Assumption had no difficulty in beating Providence, with Arathy Vimal and Kavitha Jose top scoring for the winners with 13 points. They were brilliantly supported by India Nelson who contributed 12 points and was chosen as the Best Player of the Tournament. Elizabeth Hillarios from Providence College was adjusted as the Most Promising Player.

On Wednesday, in an exciting semi final match Providence College, Kozhikode came from behind to scrape past St Josephs College Alapuzha 48-47 with Elizabeth Hillarios top scoring for the winners with 15 points and international Amrutha scoring 20 points for St Josephs. In the second semi final, host Assumption College had an easy victory over Alphonza College, Aluva with the score 47-8.

Earlier, in quarter final matches, Assumption beat SES College Sreekantapuram 48-33, St Josephs, Alapuzha beat St Josephs College, Irinjalakuda 43-42 and Providence beat V K Krishnamenon College, Kannur with the score 45-38.
