4 Members of Osmania Medical College Basketball Team perish in bus accident while returning from a sports tournament

These are not the reports we love to write, and it is with great sadness that we bring to you, news of the death of 4 Osmania Medical College, Hyderabad students. As reported in the Indian Express, the deceased students have been identified as G Laxman, M Pranay, Uday, M Vijay. The driver Vijay Krishna too perished in the accident.

All these students were returning from a sports tournament on March 15, when their bus collided with a tree. The report says:

There were 46 students in the bus when the mishap occurred. Of the 35 injuries, 20 have suffered severe head injuries. The students had gone to Amalapuram to participate in a sports event and were returning via Vijayawada Monday night.

Mr Kunta Sai Teja, who also belongs to the same college, informs us that two of the deceased, Pranay and Uday were especially passionate about the game.

A tribute video was made in memory of Pranay, who earned the nickname KD, for resemblance in his playing style with that of the Oklahoma City Thunder forward. Here's the video:

We were further informed that Pranay's brother gave away a pair of KDs to the MVP of a basketball tournament that was later conducted by Osmania Medical College.

An incident of such sort could have happened to any of us. We all travel/have traveled with our teammates on countless occasions to participate in sporting events.

Our hearts go out to the families and friends of these student-athletes. May their souls rest in peace.
