3x3 Senior National Basketball: Uttar Pradesh men impress on Day 1

Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium, Chennai: Fresh off their inspiring FIBA 3x3 U18 World Cup appearance earlier this month, Uttar Pradesh’s Harsh Dagar and Kushal Singh made opponents sit up and take notice, by topping their preliminary pool and storming into the pre-quarterfinals.
Uttar Pradesh’s three day-1 scalps - which included Puducherry (21-9) and Delhi (21-17) - was nonetheless headlined by its dominating 21-13 win over the seasoned Indian Railways.
72 matches on Day 1 (i.e. September 22)
Overall, 72 games were held on the first day.
Besides Uttar Pradesh, other men’s teams with perfect records in the preliminary pool phase were Punjab - featuring international big men Amjyot Singh and Amritpal Singh, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Gujarat (Men).
In the women’s section, Tamil Nadu, Chhattisgarh, Indian Railways, Kerala, Telangana, Delhi, Haryana and Meghalaya topped their respective pools winning all their games.
All virtue of winning their pools, all these teams progressed directly to the pre-quarterfinals.
Round-of-32 games held on Day 2 i.e. Sept 23 (morning)
This morning witnessed the second and third-placed teams from the preliminary pools battle it out for a spot in the pre-quarterfinals. Barring three games, most were one-sided encounters where the margin of victory was 7 points or more.
The round-of-16 action begins at 2 pm today.
