3rd Invitational Kirori Mal College Basketball Tournament Tips Off in Delhi
Tip off between Ramjas and Khalsa college.
The 3rd Invitational Kirori Mal College Basketball Tournament tipped off with men's and women's teams from across the University of Delhi (DU). The environment was electric with bass-heavy music accompanying the 6 exciting matchups of Day 1.
The first match was played between Hansraj College and SRCC, a close game for the first three quarters, Hansraj College was eventually able to pull away winning by 10 points behind stellar play by center Rahul Jakkhar (21). Piyush from SRCC was the star of the losing side with 17 points.
Day 1 of Men's Action
Second match was in the women's category, with home team KMC facing off against SRCC. Ayushi (17) from KMC shot lights out during a stretch where she hit 3 straight 3-pointers, was outdone by experienced and versatile play by SRCC. Princy (14) was the leading scorer for SRCC.
LSR and KMC came away with big wins in the women's category
The 3rd match was played between Ramjas College and Khalsa College. The match went back and forth till the mid part of the 3rd quarter, but after that Ramjas started losing some momentum. Ramjas occasionally displayed stellar ball movement but it wasn't enough to overcome the 17 points by Khalsa's towering center, Arsh Deep who also accumulated a couple of blocks . Aayush lead Ramjas college with 12 points in loss.
The crowd swelled for the men's matchup of home team KMC vs. Hindu College. Both teams played exceedingly well throughout the match, but KMC definitely held the edge. Hindu College made a late run for the game in the fourth quarter behind international player Bhullar Arsh, who made 4 straight 3 pointers to make the match interesting. But KMC made a couple of defensive plays late in the fourth quarter under the leadership of Lalit Pal and Yudhvir Dhaiya and won the game. Shanky Taliyan's was the leading scorer for KMC with 28 points while Bhullar Arsh accumulated 30 points in a losing effort for Hindu College.

The fifth match was played between women's teams from Lady Shri Ram College (LSR) and Miranda House College. Both teams played well but LSR eventually came away victorious. Jasmine (10) lead LSR to the win, whereas Miranda House was lead by Meenakshi (9).
The final match of the day was played between KMC Alumni and St. Stephens college. KMC has always been a basketball power house, and looking at the alumni bench just proves that point. Comprising of 15-20 substitutes, some alumni still play for teams of Income Tax Department and Railways. The Alumni had a balanced scoring attack and won comfortably. Aditya Raj (14) was the catalyst for the Alumni while St. Stephens were lead by Aarman (10).
